The Nadav Haber Quartet plays a unique brand of Ethiopian based jazz, influenced by the Middle Eastern sounds of Jerusalem, where the band is based. This original blend can be heard on the quartet's first CD – “Addis Mist” Ajourney between Ethiopia and Jerusalem, recorded live in Jerusalem in the summer of 2006, as well as on “Jazz In Jerusalem”– a collection of some of the new jazz sounds coming out of Jerusalem. The band's line up consists of highly original musicians who contribute to the special sound of the band. The band's highly energetic and polyrhythmic style, sometimes reminiscent of the 1960's African influenced jazz of the likes of John Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders, is enthusiastically received by the audience.
Playing with several local jazz groups, Nadav was introduced to Ethiopian music in 1990. After a few years of learning the music, Nadav started performing in 1994 with an Ethiopian group in clubs and weddings around Israel, playing traditional Ethiopian music as well as modern Ethiopian pop. In 2001, Nadav became the musical director of club 911 in Jerusalem, and formed a jazz quintet. Moving back to playing standard jazz, he started gradually to incorporate elements of Ethiopian music in his music, a process that culminated in early 2006, when the new quartet was formed, playing mostly original music, which is closely based on Ethiopian rhythms, scales and feeling.
